August 29, 2005 marked an era in Mississippi history, when the storm surge from Hurricane Katrina devastated several communities along the Gulf Coast, including the City of Biloxi. Hurricane Katrina reeked havoc to the City’s infrastructure, damaging Biloxi's water distribution, sewage collection and storm drainage systems along with several sewer lift stations. The storm destroyed roadway and storm drainage facilities that remain in desperate need of repair in order to get Biloxi and the city's critical infrastructure back up and running at maximum capacity. The task is daunting. Repair and restoration are needed on approximately 426,000 linear feet of sewer main, 485,000 linear feet of water main, 48 lift stations, and 320,000 linear feet of storm drainage.

The energy and determination demonstrated by residents, business owners, agencies, and city officials have fueled extraordinary efforts to bring Biloxi back—stronger and better than ever.
